Official Tennis Australia junior program designed for every child, of every ability. Kids play on smaller courts with modified equipment (lighter rackets, lower nets and tennis balls that don’t bounce too high) to make it easier, and more fun to progress.

The Aim of the program is to develop kids mentally, and physically. While above all, having FUN! Kids will develop their social and problem-solving skills while playing in a team, and as individuals.

Children progress through four stages – Blue, Red, Orange and Green – as their ability improves. This approach to teaching kids tennis is also recommended by the International Tennis Federation.

ANZ HOT SHOTS (age 3-12)

  • BLUE STAGE (age 3-5)

Blue Hot Shots is for children between the ages of 3 to 5y.o.

Our Blue Ball program is a launch pad stage to introduce children to tennis through games and fun activities. This stage is heavily focused on developing your child’s fundamental motor skills and perceptual-motor skills, such as throwing, catching, striking, tracking, balancing and moving, so they can begin playing tennis as soon as possible.

Advancing through various levels of blue ball stages, children learn the basics of tennis including how to rally using lots of adapted equipment such as balloons, big balls and beanbags.

    Class duration: 30 minutes.

Recommended racquet size: 19-21 inches (depending on the height of the child)

  • RED STAGE (age 5-8)

The red ball is larger than a yellow ball (normal tennis ball) and doesn’t bounce as high (just 25% compression), making it a breeze for even the youngest players to hit comfortably. The courts and nets used in the Red stage are much smaller making it easier for kids to move around and enjoy success.

Our entry-level classes for Red-Ballers and are perfect for first-time players or kids who have played a small amount of tennis. Players will work on developing all of the fundamental skills of tennis including rallying, serving, coming to the net and scoring and competing. By week 8 of the term players will take part in our award day which will measure their progress in the following areas: Rally, Serve, Come to the Net, Score and Compete. This will give them the opportunity to progress into the next level of Red Ball Hot Shot classes.

Red Hot Shots players progress through different levels by acquiring new skills and taking part in exercises. Within each of the four levels, Red Hot Shots players learn and are tested on four important skills:

Rally – Learning and developing rallying skills

Serve – Learning and developing serving skills

Come to the net – Learning and developing movement forwards and volleying

Score and Compete – Learning the rules, how to score, how to compete and fair play
